The main building function as a large commercial program before the renovation, with vertical circulation positioned at the peripheral. Client decided to convert it into a mix-use complex with office and apartment.
First of all, we divide the curved building into three 60X35 meters independent units, each with a separate entrance lobby at ground floor. The vertical circulation is shifted from the peripheral to the center of each unit, maximizing the access of daylight and supporting a proper depth of office space.
Client requires that floors above the fifth must be designed as apartments with balcony, whereas the below should be occupied by full-glazed office. A matrix of curtain wall is adopted to achieve an integrate west facade facing the city main road. Along its height, the glass suggests a width gradient from wide to narrow. Its efficiency covering the outdoor air-conditioner units establishes a continuity for different program. The matrix gives an impression of raindrop that renders a strong personality of the building.
In considering a residential block is on the east side, we choose two kinds of painting with different gray and a stepped-back wall with a series of punctured windows to provide the shading and to control the budget.
